DERA ISMAIL KHAN: OCT 17, 2025:

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday visited the police training center and the National Database and Registeration Authority’s(NADRA) office which were recently attacked by terrorists. During the visit District Police Officer (DPO) Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada gave a detailed briefing about the terrorist attack on those facilities.

Later, talking to media persons, the governor said that those who do not recognize Pakistan’s Constitution and the writ of the state cannot be part of any negotiations. He said that an operation against terrorist elements had become inevitable and called for national consensus in support of a National Peace Operation to ensure lasting stability. He said that peace in the country could only be achieved if the political leadership, armed forces, and the public stood united. The governor revealed that a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister and attended by all provincial chief ministers will be held to make important decisions regarding national security and counter-terrorism operations.

Governor Kundi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been the most affected province by terrorism, and the region’s progress was directly linked with peace and security. He added that merged tribal districts have vast reserves of oil and gas that could be tapped once peace was restored. He noted that OGDCL and other companies were ready to invest in these areas, but such development was only possible through sustainable peace. The governor disclosed that one of the attackers involved in the recent assault on the training center was a local, while the remaining assailants were Afghan nationals directly in contact with handlers in Afghanistan.

He alleged that India and Israel were using Afghanistan to destabilize Pakistan, noting that the recent attack coincided with the presence of an Afghan delegation in India — evidence of a coordinated nexus. He added that Pakistan has carried out several intelligence-based operations against terrorist hideouts but has also observed ceasefires at the request of friendly nations. Commenting on provincial affairs, Governor Kundi said he recently held an informal meeting with the newly elected Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a PTI delegation. He expressed optimism that political issues would be resolved through dialogue and that the provincial government will work with PTI for the development of the province. He urged all political parties to unite for peace, effective resource utilization, and better governance.

He praised the bravery and sacrifices of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, stating that their courage saved Dera Ismail Khan from a major tragedy. “Police have always played a vital role in maintaining peace,” the governor said, adding that the people of Dera are proud of their police force, which continues to serve with dedication and valor.
