Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday assured tribal elders from Bara in Khyber district of his full cooperation and said the issue of compensation and relief for civilians affected during the ongoing operation would be taken up with the federation. A delegation of tribal elders from Bara, led by former MPA Muhammad Shafiq Afridi, called on the Governor at Governor House and apprised him of the prevailing situation in the area. The delegation informed the Governor that local residents were facing serious difficulties due to the operation and said both security forces and civilians had suffered heavy losses. They also expressed concern that the provincial government had failed to effectively represent the people and voiced hope that Governor House would help improve the situation. Talking to the delegation, Governor Kundi said sacrifices rendered by security forces and the people of the province, particularly tribal communities, for restoration of peace could never be compensated adequately. He said peace could only be ensured through collective efforts and emphasized that the people of the region themselves would have to work together for lasting stability. The Governor said he would speak to the federal government regarding formation of a committee for compensation and redressal of civilian losses in the affected areas. He added that after the 18th Constitutional Amendment, provincial governments had been empowered and the KP government must play its due role in addressing public issues. He also called for convening a meeting of the Apex Committee. Governor Kundi said that in his capacity as Governor and through the Pakistan Red Crescent, all possible assistance had been extended to tribal communities and the support process would continue. He maintained that problems existed across the province, adding that the issue was not lack of authority but lack of attention and interest on the part of the provincial government. Chairman Pakistan Red Crescent KP Farzand Ali Wazir was also present on the occasion.
