PESHAWAR, Oct 17: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Saturday said that provision of quality healthcare facilities, resolution of doctors’ genuine issues and improvement of the health service delivery system were among the government’s top priorities.

Addressing the 59th convocation of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) as chief guest, the Governor said that special focus would be given to providing modern medical facilities, improving healthcare infrastructure and establishing better hospitals in underprivileged and remote areas. He added that doctors and other healthcare workers would be provided a dignified and conducive working environment.

He congratulated the graduating doctors, their parents and teachers, saying that CPSP was among the leading medical institutions of the country and had played an important role in promoting quality healthcare services and the development of the medical profession.

He said the government would work with all relevant institutions to ensure better medical services for deprived segments of society.

Addressing young doctors, he urged them to serve the underserved communities with professionalism, ethics and compassion. He said the government would utilize the capabilities of young doctors and take measures to prevent brain drain by creating better professional opportunities in the province.

He said that doctors’ genuine issues would be addressed on a priority basis through consultation with them. He emphasized that effective coordination among doctors, medical institutions, organizations and the government was essential for improving the health service delivery system.

The Governor directed the Health Department to prepare a comprehensive plan for extending quality healthcare services to remote areas and said efforts would be made to ensure that no family remained deprived of essential medical facilities.

Later, talking to media persons, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said that restoration of peace and maintenance of law and order were the government’s first priority and no compromise would be made on the issue.

He said heavy investment would be made in the police force, while 10 to 12 terrorism-affected districts would be developed as model districts with regard to peace and security. He added that the elements responsible for disturbing peace in the province had no future.

Responding to political statements, the Governor said that effective action against terrorist elements was inevitable and appreciated those who were working with the state against terrorism. He said KP and Balochistan were facing security challenges that required collective efforts.

Governor Kundi said KP’s mineral resources should be utilized for the development and prosperity of the people, inviting foreign investors to invest in the province’s mineral sector. He said exploitation of natural resources through transparent means would create economic opportunities and improve public welfare.
