Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday emphasized the importance of promoting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to strengthen the economy and create employment opportunities for youth in the province. He expressed these views during a meeting with Regional Head of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) Peshawar, Rashid Aman, who called on him at Governor House. During the meeting, the SMEDA regional head briefed the governor in detail about the authority’s performance and ongoing initiatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said SMEDA was working on various programs aimed at promoting SMEs, encouraging entrepreneurship among youth, improving the industrial sector, and generating employment opportunities. He informed that SMEDA was providing guidance to entrepreneurs regarding business establishment, feasibility studies, technical consultancy, and access to financial facilities. He added that training programs and workshops were also being organized in various sectors to promote small businesses. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi appreciated the role of SMEDA and said that SMEs played a vital role in strengthening the national economy and generating employment opportunities. He said SMEDA had an important role in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and carried greater responsibility to encourage youth towards entrepreneurship and promote local industry. The Governor stressed the need to further strengthen coordination among relevant institutions to promote business activities in the province, particularly in the merged districts, and to create more investment opportunities. He also emphasized encouraging youth, especially women, and said greater attention was needed to empower women in various sectors.
