Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday visited the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) here to inquire after police personnel injured in the recent terrorist attack in Hangu and stressed the need for collective efforts to restore peace in the province.
During the visit, the Governor met the injured policemen, wished them a speedy recovery and received a briefing from the hospital administration regarding their treatment and medical facilities. He directed the authorities to ensure the provision of the best possible healthcare to the injured personnel.
The Governor paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police in the fight against terrorism, saying their services and the sacrifices of martyrs would always be remembered.
He said the entire nation stood shoulder to shoulder with the security forces and police in the fight against terrorism and for the establishment of lasting peace.
Talking to media at LRH, Governor Kundi expressed deep sorrow over the Hangu incident and urged all political stakeholders to rise above political differences for the sake of the province.
He said politics driven by personal interests had pushed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa towards instability and called for immediate measures to prevent further deterioration of the law and order situation.
He reiterated that the fight against terrorism would continue until the last terrorist was eliminated and ruled out any negotiations with those who did not accept the Constitution and the law.
He also underscored the importance of effective coordination between the federal and provincial governments to combat terrorism.
The Governor called for equipping the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police with modern weapons and adequate resources, saying that the police were serving on the frontline against terrorism despite receiving lower salaries than their counterparts in other provinces.
He appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to convene a high-level meeting on the province's security situation. He also proposed a joint sitting of Parliament to discuss the prevailing law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Governor Kundi further called for an in-camera session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and a meeting of the provincial Apex Committee, saying the sole agenda should be the restoration of peace.
He reaffirmed his full support for the armed forces and police, saying that they needed the nation's backing in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
